Team FAQs

How do I join one of the LRD teams?

First you must be at-level. There is no point having you join a team if you are not ready to compete. Then, if you bear a USTA rating, you can register (or pre-register) for the level appropriate team. In case we have more demand than offer we do run tryouts for some of the pre-registered players in order to determine who will make the cut. We have strict caps on number of players in each team to guarantee match play to all. No player is just another name on a list. If you are IN, we will count on you to be committed to the team for the duration of the season.

What if I am in multiple teams during a season?

That is very common. We do ask that you make any LRD teams you are part of your #1 priority in case of a scheduling conflict. If we are not your priority, we suggest you do not register as to allow a more committed player to get the opportunity to develop instead.

Do you have a Team Practice (TP)?

Yes for the Spring (USTA 18+) and Fall (Marin League, A & B divisions) seasons. No, for the Winter (USTA 40+) season as we do not have the courts to run one. Depending on level, TP are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 10:30am each week. We use a turnover system but if availability is the same for all players, everyone will be asked to attend the same amount of TP.

Do you attend matches?

Yes, I do (but not all of them!). Part of players’ development is the ability for your coach to see how close you can match practice level to match level. It is very useful for the coach to see any discrepancy and provide feedback to players, so they get a clearer road map to success to follow.

Do all players play the same number of matches?

No they do not. It all depends on players’ availability first of all, then team needs. That said, each player will play a fair amount of matches each season. No player will play no match or just 1 match (unless their availability is poor or they suffer an injury). So be prepared to contribute to the team! If everyone is available all the time, the top players will play a bit more and the players that still need extra experience will play a few less matches but the discrepancy will not be drastic.

What about playoffs?

When it comes down to playoffs, the best available  line up will play each match. It still depends on player’s availability though but because this is a single elimination format, it is important to have the best possible lineup to see the team advance.
